India are already 2-1 up in the ongoing Test series against Australia with one match remaining to be played at Sydney Cricket Ground (SCG), starting tomorrow. India are yet to win the series though as Tim Paine and Co is in with a chance to win the encounter and draw level. In the meantime, the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) has named a 13-man squad for the final contest.
Umesh Yadav, who didn’t play the last match at Melbourne Cricket Ground (MCG) has been picked. Ishant Sharma, the tall and lanky fast bowler from Delhi didn’t find a place in the squad. The 30-year-old speedster hasn’t had the worst of series by any stretch of the imagination. Ishant ended the series with 11 wickets from three matches and didn’t look out of gas at any point in time.
Umesh Yadav played in Perth
He picked up three wickets in Adelaide and then got five wickets in Perth that included a four-wicket haul in the first innings of the encounter. At the MCG, he returned with three wickets. Apart from that, India also made quite a few changes to the lineup. Umesh played the second match in Perth when the visitors went in with an all-pace attack owing to the nature of the strip there.
KL Rahul, who was dropped after the first two matches in Adelaide and Perth, staked his claim back into the side. Even as Mayank Agarwal would open the batting, there would be a toss-up between Rahul and Hanuma Vihari, who strained with the willow at MCG, as the other opener. Meanwhile, Rohit Sharma won’t be playing the final Test as he flew to Mumbai to attend his pregnant wife.
Ravi Ashwin played well in Adelaide and ended with six wickets in the match. However, an abdominal strain sidelined him from the next two matches. To his relief, he also found his way back into the squad. For the time being, Twitter is highly dissatisfied with Umesh’s selection over Ishant and the users on the social media expressed their disappointment over the matter.

What's this??? 🤦♂️

And where is Ishant, injured?#AUSvIND #INDvAUS https://t.co/3HoXI3FVLL— Roshan Verma (@iRoshan_Rv) January 2, 2019
Surprised to see Pandya missing. Ishant ran out of gas after 3 tests perhaps, he's the oldest pacer in the pack. Return of KL will mean Vihari back at 6 which is fair. If Ash isnt 100% on match day, then it shouldn't be risked and Kuldeep should get in. #AUSvIND
