Delhi franchise made a big announcement on Tuesday of changing their team name with the auctions only a few days away. The team name was changed from the Daredevils to Capitals as the stakeholders of the franchise also graced their presence in the event. They will now hope to change the fortunes of the team having failed to even qualify for the final of the Indian Premier League (IPL) in its 11-year history so far.
The likes of Kiran Kumar Grandhi and Parth Jindal, the owners of the franchise, were confident that the new partnership will work for them in the upcoming season. They were also upbeat about the fact that they had the exuberance of youth in their line-up while also pointing out that Delhi now have the top four which represents Team India at the highest level.
Shikhar boost for Delhi
Delhi Capitals (new name) traded three players with the Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) recently to secure the services of Shikhar Dhawan. He will now be opening with Prithvi Shaw while the likes of Rishabh Pant and the skipper Shreyas Iyer will follow them next to make for an exciting top four of their playing XI.
Having said that the team has failed to deliver as a unit every time despite making frequent changes in the team combinations. The franchise, however, would be keen to start afresh now by picking some decent players in the auction as they have Rs 25.50 Crores left in their purse and can still buy 10 players in their set-up.
Meanwhile, the cricket fans haven’t liked the name it seems as they are trolling the franchise owners hilariously. The social media gimmicks have come up with interesting memes over the same while many also have doubts whether this step will change their fortune now in the next season.
