Pakistan batting choked when the golden opportunity to seal a spot in the semi-finals arrived. Sri Lanka and Pakistan right now are part an enthralling match as the Asian heavyweights fight it out in the race for the semi-finals. But as it is turning out, Pakistan batsmen are in point of losing the match out of nowhere.

The men in green have made their task difficult for themselves in the last 10 overs after the rookie Fakhar Zaman impressed one and all with his maiden half-century in One Day International cricket. This came after a sensational bowling effort from Pakistan trident of swing bowling, turning back the clock a few years back, when Wasim, Waqar and Shoaib Akhtar terrorised batsmen with their swing and pace.

However, all their efforts seem so to go down in vain, as the men in green are currently struggling to chase down the modest target of 237. It was 92-1 when Babar Azam and Azhar Ali took over the responsibility to finish the job for his side. But all changed after the wicket of Babar Azam. The arch rivals of India, then, were reduced to 137-6 when Imad Wasim was dismissed.

Mohammad Hafeez failed to justify his place in the side as he failed yet again to contribute as he fell after adding just one run the total, much to the displeasure of Twitterati. The Asian side then lost the well set Azhar Ali who was batting steadily for his 34. Things started to escalate after Shoaib Malik and Imad Wasim went back to the pavilion.

The four-pronged pace attack of Sri Lanka has replicated what the Pakistani seam bowlers did to their batsmen. Nuwan Pradeep has caused havoc in opposition’s camp with his 3 wickets. The likes of Suranga Lakmal, Thisara Perera and the old warhorse of Sri Lankan cricket, Lasith Malinga, all have chipped in with unplayable spells, clinching a wicket each.
