KL Rahul had a stupendous campaign in the 2018 edition of the Indian Premier League (IPL) and he was undoubtedly Kings XI Punjab’s (KXIP) best batsmen in the tournament. Subsequently, he was also drafted into the Indian team for the Test, ODI and T20I series against England. He scored a T20I century, but couldn’t do much apart from that, succumbing to constant failures.

The Karnataka batsman kept flattering to deceive in the subsequent games, even after the selectors kept showing faith in the youngster. He got a chance to show his prowess in the Australia tour, but he couldn’t step up and deliver. Moreover, an unwanted controversy along with Hardik Pandya in the Koffee With Karan show added to the right-handed batsman’s woes.

KL Rahul for number four?

Thereafter, he didn’t play the limited-overs series against New Zealand. Nevertheless, he came out with a couple of decent knocks against Australia in the T20I series. But he only played one ODI against the Aussies. His focus must be the World Cup, which is scheduled to start on May 30. India are still in search for the number four batsman and Rahul is one of the contenders.

The squad will be announced on April 15 and Rahul would be keen to make the cut. He is currently playing for Kings XI Punjab (KXIP) in the 2019 Indian Premier League (IPL). After a couple of failures, he got into his groove and notched three half-centuries. Nevertheless, yesterday, the 26-year-old was in a different zone as he scored his maiden IPL century in a mere 64 balls.

His knock was laced with six fours and as many sixes. He shared a 116-run opening stand with Chris Gayle and helped Punjab to 197 for four in 20 overs. Unfortunately, his knock went in vain as Kieron Pollard’s 31-ball 83 took Mumbai Indians (MI) over the finishing line in the thriller. In the meantime Twitterati wants Rahul to bat at number four in the World Cup.
