There’s absolutely no doubt in the fact that Rohit Sharma has tasted a significant amount of success over the years, especially in the T20 format. Back in 2013, he won his Indian Premier League (IPL) franchise its maiden championship after taking over from Ricky Ponting. The Nagpur-born cricketer hasn’t taken a backward step thereafter and kept showing his class and calibre.
In 2015 and 2017, he repeated the feat and guided his team to IPL glories. Yesterday, Rohit guided his team to victory versus the Chennai Super Kings (CSK) in the Final of the IPL 2019. MI won by a mere one run after the contest went down to the last over. Mumbai had scored 149 in their 20 overs after which Shane Watson gave them an almighty scare, having scored 80 under pressure.
Nevertheless, veteran Sri Lankan pacer Lasith Malinga was required to defend nine runs off the final over. The speedster held his nerve and with two runs needed off the final delivery, he trapped Shardul Thakur in front to demolish CSK’s hopes of a victory. Even as the Super Kings’ were left shell shocked at the Rajiv Gandhi International Stadium, the MI bunch was deservingly cock-a-hoop.
Fans back Rohit Sharma as T20I captain after a decent show in the IPL
The most astonishing part is that despite not winning any of their first five seasons, Mumbai is now the most successful team in the IPL, having won four championships and all of them came under Rohit’s leadership. After the jaw-dropping performance, Twitter now wants Rohit as the captain of the Indian T20I team. The 32-year-old has the experience of leading India in the shortest format.
A lot of times it has happened that Virat Kohli, India’s regular all-format skipper, rested himself in order to manage his workload. Subsequently, Rohit got his chance to show his mettle of leadership at the highest level and he hasn’t let his team down by any means. The supporters had no doubt that Rohit is the appropriate candidate to become India’s full-time T20I captain.
Here is how Twitter expressed its opinion
Rohit Sharma the super captain. In World cup also he should be captain of team India. He is really lucky captain also talented. #IPLFinal2019

@imVkohli – You are one of the greatest batsman of the world champ. But India needs a better captain. Rohit Sharma proves it again but BCCI is blind to it. How teams are built – why Bobby Moore led 1966 soccer world cup while bobby charlton remains greatest british player.

Can somebody justify Kohli's Indian captainship? Rohit has not only how to captain India in limited overs w/o msd, but this guy won 4 games in a single season against Dhoni.#IPL2019Final
