Twitter wants Suresh Raina as Kedar Jadhav’s replacement in the World Cup 2019
Raina last played for India in July 2018 against England.
The 2019 World Cup in England and Wales is all set to get underway on Thursday, May 30. India, being one of the favourites, will play their first match against South Africa on June 5 at the Rose Bowl in Southampton. However, prior to the mega event, the Men in Blue have been encountered with concern as Kedar Jadhav has developed a shoulder injury.
He last played for the Chennai Super Kings (CSK) in the game against the Kings XI Punjab (KXIP) at the PCA Stadium in Mohali. After the game, Stephen Fleming, the head coach of the franchise, gave the news and also said that he won’t play any further part in the cash-rich extravaganza. In 14 matches, Jadhav scored 162 runs at an average of 18 with a top score of 58.
Raina for Jadhav’s replacement? Yes, says Twitter
In the meantime, fans want Suresh Raina as Jadhav’s replacement for the World Cup. The official Twitter handle of the International Cricket Council (ICC) posted a tweet, asking the supporters to opine of Kedar’s replacement. Subsequently, the fans vouched for Raina, who’s playing for CSK as well, to be included. The 32-year-old southpaw hasn’t quite been at his best.
In 14 games, Suresh has notched 359 runs at an average of 27.61 with three half-centuries. The Super Kings have already qualified for the playoffs and Raina racked up scores of 59 and 53 in the last two round-robin games against the Delhi Capitals (DC) and Kings XI Punjab (KXIP). As far as his international journey of late is concerned, it hasn’t been pleasant by any means
Last year, the left-hander made his comeback into the ODI team after a gap of two years in the overseas series against England. He couldn’t get substantial scores under his belt and was, subsequently, left out of the national team. Albeit he has been completely out of contention for an India berth, fans feel that there’s no better replacement for Jadhav at least for the time being.
Here is how Twitter expressed its opinion
