Twitterati advocates for a retired player to comeback into England Test side
To make things worse, even Cook is struggling.

Alastair Cook has played with 12 different openers since 2012 and in 2018, is yet to find a stable partner for him. Keaton Jennings who is currently playing in the ongoing Test series against India has looked extremely ordinary with his technique and averages only 24 in the nine Tests he’s played so far. The calls for him to be dropped are growing louder with every match and Twitterati also wants Marcus Trescothick to come out of his retirement and save England’s Test side.
It seems that the England and Wales Cricket Board (ECB) concentrated a little too much on resurrecting their limited-overs fortunes. In fact, they are extremely well in those formats as England qualified for the final of ICC World T20 in 2016 and now are the contenders to win the 50-over World Cup which will take place at home next year. But in the process, the Test team was left reeling or one can say that the issues in the team were overlooked.
Cook’s dismal form
To make thing worse for England, even Cook is running out of form and has scored only 252 runs in 13 innings this year. Even during the Ashes down under, the veteran couldn’t hit the straps and his team more often than not got off to poor starts. Trescothick who retired from international cricket back in 2008 is still around in County cricket and to be fair he is still looking strong with his technique.
He is playing for Somerset and has scored 322 runs in 8 innings this season at a brilliant average of 40.25. He has also scored a century and a couple of fifty-plus scores which proves that the 42-year-old is still capable of playing long innings. His career average of 43.79 in 76 Test matches is not less than an achievement.
Twitterati was also in the favour of bringing him back as England have been totally struggling to find an opener at the international level despite many of them playing well in County.
Here’s how they reacted:
Dear Ed Smith,
I am writing to you to explain why the next England opener should be none other than Marcus Trescothick. As you will remember from batting with him during his 219 against South Africa at the Oval in 2003, he is the most talented opener England have seen… (1/640)

If you are genuinely looking for England's best opener for the next test to replace Jennings. It is still Marcus Trescothick

Maybe openers in England should experiment with their bats? I'm sure leaving some tree bark on the edges of the bat can soften the nicks to slip ensuring they never carry. Either that or Marcus Trescothick for Ashes next year! #bbccricket

Trescothick could open for England in next two matches against India #ENGvsIND

Trescothick could open for Eng. Easily.
We miss Trott— Annie (@AnnieCricket) August 20, 2018
I think it’s all over for Keaton Jennings. Still yet to score a 50 in a home test and with that kind of discipline outside of off stump it’s not hard to see why. Burns, Gubbins… Trescothick? #EngvInd

Random fact: Marcus Trescothick has 96 centuries in his career across all formats…

No quality players in the county circuit, Pope Jennings Hameed Compton type players lack class. The only inform player currently in the circuit is the 43 year old Marcus Trescothick

This Trescothick bloke, don’t you think he could open for England?

Stokes did nothing to warrant his return to the side… it’s the old mates act…
openers will always struggle the way the system is here… recall Trescothick. 😉— Steve Lewis (@lewyitfc) August 19, 2018
Trescothick was the Cook that cricket needed, but maybe did not deserve…
