The hosts are completely dominating the ongoing second Test match against India. The third day has belonged to England after the partnership between Chris Woakes and Jonny Bairstow who have effectively batted the opposition out of the game. The duo came together with the team struggling at 131/5 and looked at complete ease on a pitch which has flattened out under the scorching sun at Lord’s.
The visitors were in the game in the first session as they bowled brilliantly to reduce England to 89/4. They must’ve hoped to bowl them out with a score of under 150 in the post-lunch session. But things went completely awry for them as soon as they stepped out on the field. The inside edges went England’s way today and the bowling slowly began to lose its sheen.
Superb partnership
Mohammed Shami bowled his heart out and also picked a crucial of Jos Buttler to give a glimmer of hope for his team. But then Chris Woakes’ assured footwork didn’t give any chance. Jonny Bairstow, after early jitters, got settled nicely as the duo got the best conditions of the match to bat. It was indeed a field day for them and the shoulders started to drop for India.
They tried everything but with only a couple of lead bowlers and two spinners, they couldn’t do anything but wait for a mistake to happen. Woakes’ affair with the Lord’s extended with the bat as well as he smashed his maiden Test century and comfortably looked the best batsman of the game. Meanwhile, Bairstow continued his dream run in 2018 and toppled Virat Kohli in terms of international runs scored this year.
Just when the crowd was waiting for him to complete his ton as well, Hardik Pandya struck against the run of play. Bairstow edged a harmless delivery only for Dinesh Karthik to take a brilliant flying catch in order to break the 189-run partnership. He was dismissed for 93 but did his job perfectly and has put his team in a commanding position in this game amidst the rain around in the next couple of days.
Here’s Twitter reacted to a heroic stand:

Different conditions, definitely. But champions don't make excuses and excuses don't make champions.
Making an injury comeback, what a player Woakes.
