Murali Vijay slammed his 10th Test century on his international comeback on the second day of the ongoing second Test against Sri Lanka. He was left out of the team for the first Test surprisingly and only got his chance because Shikhar Dhawan asked the team management to release from the squad citing personal reasons. However, Vijay looked satisfied after his century and this knock will give him confidence ahead of the tour to South Africa. Twitter took note of his comeback knock and hailed him for his efforts. He and Cheteshwar Pujara strode out to the middle on the second morning to extend India’s advantage in the match.
They started sedately and respected the bowlers who were disciplined with their line and lengths. But soon after lunch Vijay started playing his strokes and pounced on the bad deliveries presented by the opposition. He looked in no trouble whatsoever and it seemed he was playing cricket at the highest level forever. He drove whenever the ball was pitched up, his backfoot punches were elegant and defended good balls throughout his knock. The batsman has made his chance count in the absence of Dhawan and has celebrated his return to International cricket in style. This was his seventh century at home and now has almost sealed his opening slot for South Africa series.
India strongly placed in the second Test
Pujara and Murali Vijay continued to enjoy each other’s company in Tests and have registered another double century stand. While Vijay was dismissed on 128 by Rangana Herath, the latter is as still looking absolutely solid on 77. Sri Lanka bowlers have toiled hard and struggled to pick their first wicket of the day but the duo was in no mood to give away the golden chance of piling up the runs.
These huge knocks are surely going to bode well for India when they travel and the other batsmen will also hope to take a leaf out of their book and completely bat the opposition out of the Test match. Twitterati didn’t miss out on Murali Vijay’s heroic century and was all praise of him.

Vijay has thrown away a chance to score a huge one. Tired shot. Something good Test players don't do, learn to make double tons. #INDvSL

Not for the first time in his career (Brisbane 2014 and Ranchi 2017 come immediately to mind), Vijay ends a splendid innings with a moment's indiscretion against spin.
