Twitterati erupts as Afghanistan trumps Pakistan to win the U19 Asia Cup
Ikram Ali Khil and Mujeeb were the architects of the huge victory.
Afghanistan floored Pakistan by a whopping 185 runs and won the U19 Asia Cup on Sunday at Kinrara Academy Oval in Kuala Lumpur. The year 2017 has gotten even better for Afghanistan as they earned the Test status earlier along with Ireland. The improvement they have shown in the game of cricket has been highly impressive and now has historically won the Asia Cup which is surely going to send the cricketing fraternity into the frenzy. Twitterati was all praise of the colts of Afghanistan for this memorable achievement and hailed them for winning the tournament.
They topped the group first which had the more accomplished teams like Sri Lanka and Pakistan in it. They had beaten the Men in Green in the opening game of the competition by seven wickets last week. But very few had given them the chance of winning the coveted trophy.
How did the final pan out?
Pakistan called it correctly at the toss and invited Afghanistan to bat first on a tricky pitch. The openers provided them with a sedate start as they added 61 runs in less than 18 overs. But the innings was provided with real impetus by the wicketkeeper-batsman Ikram Ali Khil who slammed the magnificent unbeaten ton. He scored 107 off just 113 deliveries coming in after the fall of the first wicket and hit 10 fours along with a couple of maximums. Afghanistan posted a competitive total of 248 for the loss of seven wickets after 50 overs.
Pakistan, in their chase, never looked in control and were put under pressure by the new-ball bowlers. Mujeeb wreaked havoc in their batting line-up and scalped a five-for after which the result of the final was a foregone conclusion. He returned with the sensational figures of 5/13 in 7.1 overs and broke the bone of their batting. Eventually, they were bowled out for a paltry total of 63 in the 23rd over. Mujeeb was very supported by Qais Ahmed who picked 3 wickets for just 18 runs.
Twitter poured in their tweets to wish the youngsters of Afghanistan for winning the Asia Cup as the country added another feather to their cap in the sport.
