Continuing his sensational run against India, Joe Root advanced to yet another Test hundred. The England captain put up a batting exhibition in the ongoing second Test and scored runs all over the park. Root indeed paced his knock to perfection as there were hardly any half measures during the course of his knock. While he tackled the challenging deliveries with precision, the veteran didn’t mind dispatching the poor deliveries for boundaries.

Subsequently, Root scripted his name at the Lord’s honours board as the home crowd went berserk. Notably, the England skipper came out to bat at a difficult time. In reply to India’s first-innings score of 364 runs, the home team lost opener Dominic Sibley and comeback man Haseeb Hameed cheaply. In fact, pacer Mohammed Siraj dismissed the duo on consecutive deliveries.

Joe Root plays an innings of high authority

However, Root came out at number four and England forged a comeback. The English skipper first joined forces with opener Rory Burns to rebuild the home side’s innings. While Burns was dismissed just before the stumps on Day 2, Root didn’t lose his concentration. From Jasprit Bumrah and Mohammed Shami, no Indian bowler was able to pierce Root’s defenses as the 30-year-old slammed his 22nd Test ton.

Notably, this is Root’s second hundred this series. During the first Test at Trent Bridge, the English skipper made a sublime 109 in England’s second innings. In the same match, the talismanic batsman also scored 64 in the first innings. Hence, this is Root’s third successive score of 50+ and it will be interesting to see how far he goes in this innings.

As far as the ongoing Test is concerned, the contest is perfectly poised. England have crossed the 235-run mark with six wickets in hand. Besides Root, Jonny Bairstow also made a well-compiled half-century. However, Mohammed Siraj dismissed him for 57 to spice up the contest. Notably, the first game of the five-match series resulted in a draw. Hence, the winner of this game will post the first points on the board.

Joe Root’s wicket is certainly a key here. While England would want him to convert his ton into an even more significant knock, Indians would like to dismiss him as soon as possible. Meanwhile, cricket fans worldwide were mighty impressed by Root’s efforts as social media got flooded with praises.
