A scintillating batting display from Australian skipper Steve Smith and all-rounder Mitchell Marsh demolished all English hopes in the ongoing third Ashes Test at the WACA. Following, what could be heralded as clear dominance Australia have moved within sight of regaining the urn after the duo put England to the sword, pushing the visitors to the edge of no return.

Former England captain Michael Vaughan also heaped praises on Smith for the clinical knock. However, while lauding the Aussie skipper, Vaughan drew an analogy to Indian skipper Virat Kohli for which he received a lot of flak on social media. The 43-year-old veteran went a step further to declare the Australian captain as a better batsman in Test cricket.

Vaughan’s remark was provocative enough to spark a huge debate among fans over the batting credentials of the two modern-day superstars. While some Indian fans were upset with Vaughan’s assessment, others felt it was an accurate way to put things considering the form of both players at the moment.

You can see some of the reactions below

Smith remained unbeaten on 229 at stumps on Day 3 in Australia’s first innings of the 3rd Ashes Test on Saturday. In the process he registered his highest Test score yet with the double ton, surpassing 1,000 Test runs for the year and also notched his fastest Test century in an innings that appeared to shatter England’s resolve. He finally culminated his innings after getting caught LBW off a James Anderson delivery. His innings comprised of 30 fours and one six

Smith, who has spent close to nine-and-a-half hours at the crease after batting through the third day, left some of the greats of the game in awe with the epic double century, his second. The closest the Three Lions came to seeing the back of the star right-hander were two unsuccessful third-umpire reviews after having leg before wicket appeals turned down.
