History was recreated at the Dhaka Stadium as Bangladesh recorded their first ever Test victory against Australia. No one even in the wildest dreams would’ve bet on Bangladesh to put up such a stupendous performance as a team. And surely this isn’t the first instance that they have managed something astonishing.
In the last one year, they’ve defeated England, Sri Lanka and now Australia. The Tigers managed to wriggle themselves out of the pushovers category. And this match was in no ways an upset. Gone are the days when Bangladesh was considered an easy side. And they’ve proved their potential time and again in the recent past.
Chasing a target of 264 wasn’t going to be a cakewalk, but the Australians were cruising with David Warner and Steve Smith at the crease. They have been unconvincing players of spin and we saw that during their Sri Lanka and India tours. This was yet another classic example of the same. Shakib Al Hasan, probably one of the greatest all rounders to have played the game sent both Warner and Smith back to the pavilion.
Now, this is a man who has been a valuable asset for the Bangladesh side over a period of time. Shakib has scored runs with the bat when required, taken wickets at his own will and has been a loyal servant whenever the situation arose. After top scoring and later taking a five-wicket haul in the second innings, he now got the two crucial wickets to bring the home side back into the game.
The left-arm spinner later got the better of wicketkeeper-batsman Matthew Wade and Glenn Maxwell to complete a ten-wicket match haul. The Bangladesh crowd was overjoyed and delighted. The hosts won the game soon after and without any further troubles, Shakib Al Hasan was rightfully adjudged the Man of the Match.
