Rahkeem Cornwall came in for the third Test against England as fast bowler Alzarri Joseph’s replacement. The game at the Old Trafford in Manchester is only his third Test after he made his debut against India back in August 2019 at the Kingston in Jamaica. Back in November, Rahkeem was a part of the West Indies team in the one-off Test against Afghanistan as well.
In that game at the Ekana Stadium in Lucknow, he went on to become the Player of the Match. In the first innings, he ended with seven wickets, including picking up 10 wickets in the match. He was also a crucial part of the St Lucia Zouks in the 2019 Caribbean Premier League (CPL). Though his team couldn’t qualify for the playoffs, Cornwall grabbed the limelight with his power-hitting.
Rahkeem Cornwall having a rough match
As far as the ongoing series is concerned, he didn’t get to play the first couple of Tests in Southampton and Manchester. In the current Test, Cornwall hasn’t tasted success yet. In the first innings, England notched 369 runs and the off-spinner bowled the highest number of overs for the visitors. But in his 27 overs, he couldn’t pick up a single wicket, conceding 85 runs.
However, he took a couple of sharp catches to get rid of opener Rory Burns and veteran James Anderson. He hasn’t gotten a chance to bat thus far after the first two day’s play in the deciding Test. The Caribbean team has lost six wickets and are still trailing by 232 runs. It goes without saying that West Indies have to pull off something incredible if they have to make a comeback in the game.
In the meantime, Cornwall has become a butt of jokes on the social media platforms. A picture of his where he can be seen, standing in the slip cordon along with one of his teammates has been doing the rounds. The netizens noticed the difference between the fielders.
Subsequently, Twitterati made memes out of the picture. Even during the first Test, the people made some hilarious post in Jason Holder and Jermaine Blackwood’s picture. And this time around, they didn’t disappoint either.
