Diwali the festival of lights is fast approaching. It is a widely celebrated festival across India and the biggest for the Hindus. Diwali is not just famous for the lights but also for the fire crackers. But over the years there have been constant calls from environmentalists to get over the crackers fad to keep the air pollution in check. Former Indian cricketer turned commentator Aakash Chopra also urged his followers on Twitter to go green this Diwali but it fired back at him.

There is a certain segment who believes their festivals are targeted and are critical of people who want to curb down the celebrations. In response to a petition the Supreme Court of India had on Monday banned the sale of fire crackers in New Delhi as the national capital has widely struggled with air pollution problems over the years.

Novelist Chetan Bhagat who despite a huge following doesn’t enjoy a lot of glory on Twitter questioned the ban and said Diwali would be incomplete for children without crackers. “SC bans fireworks on Diwali? A full ban? What’s Diwali for children without crackers?” Bhagat tweeted.

Quoting his tweet Aakash in his response said that his 4-year-old was rather happy going green. “Chetan, my daughter is 4 yo & for a while she’s been telling everyone to have a ‘Green Diwali’. Guess our kids are more ‘aware’ than adults,” he stated.

Another gentleman got into it and asked Aakash if his daughter also has problem with the loudspeakers and animal slaughter. “Hey Akash what did ur daughter say when ppl use loudspeakers 5 times a day for Azaan, lakhs animal slaughtering during Eid n blade Moharram.”

The commentator made it clear that she hates that as well. “She hates it. Asks me why people need loudspeakers to reach out to God. Is He deaf?”

A lot of other people also expressed their opinion and most of them weren’t pleased with the Green Diwali slogans.
