Twitterati pissed off having jinxed Virat Kohli into a failure

Virat Kohli was the big fish. He had the faith of Indian fans. Even if no one else would, they were sure Kohli would. On the first morning at the Adelaide Oval, the Indian team was batting first. Josh Hazlewood and Mitchell Starc ran in and challenged them. The last ball of Hazlewood’s first was too good for KL Rahul, the last delivery of the seventh over got the better of Murali Vijay and there he was out there in the middle.

The Australian pacers were bowling beautifully, they had a plan in place and executed it to perfection in the morning session. Rahul edged a wide delivery, Vijay nicked one to the keeper and all eyes were on Kohli. He had to deliver. Bail his team out of this early trouble. His partner Cheteshwar Pujara at the other end was hanging in there. Not the most comfortable or confident but was there, surviving. It was Pat Cummins in the attack now, after Starc tested him with a few bouncers but he was on the back foot. Cummins laid the bait and had the hooks in place behind the wickets.

Kohli went fishing and was entangled trying to play too far outside the off-stump. The delivery he played was almost on the seventh stump, didn’t ask to be played. But the job still wasn’t done, it needed to be caught. England had committed the mistake of letting Kohli off early and he made them pay.

Not Usman Khawaja, the left-hander dived to his left and was all in the to take a real stunner. That early in the morning to pull that sort of a catch off, take all the credit for that wicket. Kohli was on the way back for just 3, India were 19/3 now. The Australians were ecstatic they had the big fish for breakfast. It couldn’t get better and the fans were all dejected and disappointed.
