Ajinkya Rahane posted an eye-catching hundred in the 2nd ODI against West Indies. The elegant right-hander was coming into this game on the back of a fine 62 in the first game. Rain has curtailed this game to a 43 overs a side affair which prompted Rahane to be very positive from the outset.

The 29-year old is a regular member of the Test side but of late, has been in and out of the ODI side. Since India decided to rest Rohit Sharma for this series, Rahane got the chance to open the innings alongside Shikhar Dhawan. The pair has had a good time opening together as they record their 6th straight fifty plus partnership in this game. Rahane looked in imperious form and was the aggressor early on as Shikhar took his time to settle in.

The Mumbaikar started his innings with a boundary – a pull through square leg – in the first over. The right-hander was severe on anything short and punished bowlers either side of the wicket. When Alzarri Joseph pitched one short in the third over, Rahane threw his hands at it and cut it hard with no intention of keeping it down. The ball flew off the bat of Rahane for the first six of the innings. When West Indies bowled him too straight, Rahane was quick to flick them for runs through the midwicket area.

Rahane was brutal against the leg-spin of Devendra Bishoo, taking 11 runs from his third over which included two neat boundaries. He reached his half-centuries in 56 balls in the 20th over and wanted to push on immediately. Bishoo’s fourth over was identically similar to his third as Rahane again took 11 runs off it, again hitting a pair of boundaries.

Rahane reached three figures in the 34th over when he stylishly drove Migeul Cummins through the covers to reach his third ODI century. He faced just 102 balls to get there and his innings was studded with 10 fours and two sixes. He also became the fourth Indian to score an ODI century in the West Indies joining Rahul Dravid, Yuvraj Singh and Virat Kohli. After reaching the landmark, in quest of scoring quick runs, Rahane lost his wicket two balls later as he was castled by Cummins. His 104-ball 103 gave India the ideal platform to propel towards a big score.
