Twitterati roast out-of-form KL Rahul for partying with teammates after Test series win
Rahul had a poor series and was even dropped mid-way through the Tests.
The Indian squad in Australia led by Virat Kohli indulged in a huge celebration after their historic win in the Test series against the home team, something that they accomplished for the first time in history. The series witnessed some individual brilliance from the Indian side and they emerged as the better winning it 2-1. On the other hand, there was KL Rahul and Murali Vijay, the two openers who failed to fire and in fact were even dropped from the team mid-way through the series.
It was the likes of Cheteshwar Pujara and Jasprit Bumrah who excelled with the bat and ball, respectively, deserved a big pat on their backs for their decisive contributions. The series also saw a few misses and among them were Rahul and Vijay. While Vijay still got a hundred in the only warm-up match India that India played ahead of the Test series while for Rahul, it was a complete no show.
In five innings that Rahul played in three games in the series, he could manage just 57 runs with the highest score of 44 in Adelaide. He would have missed the fourth game in Sydney had Rohit Sharma not flown back home to see his newborn daughter but despite a welcome chance, he failed to capitalise on it. Debutant Mayank Agarwal, who replaced him as an opener, scored two back-to-back 70s in Melbourne and Sydney which would mean that Rahul’s challenge of maintaining a spot in the playing XI will become all the more difficult when the injured Prithvi Shaw returns.
Rahul faced the wrath and mockery after photos of the Indian team members including him celebrating the series victory went viral on the social media. The fans were quick to roast Rahul for his consistent poor run in the Test series and yet partying with the rest of the team members after the team’s historic victory.
Earlier, the Karnataka batsman was also in poor form in England but somehow managed to save his place with a hundred in the dead rubber at the Oval and did poorly in the three T20Is against Australia ahead of the Test series. His only half century in the recent times came against Cricket Australia XI in Sydney.
Rahul, however, has found a place in the ODI side for the upcoming three-match series against Australia and also for the ODIs and T20Is against New Zealand starting later this month.
