Twitterati saddened as Rohit Sharma falls short of century in Lord’s Test
Rohit Sharma fell short of his first overseas Test hundred.
After doing all the hard work, Rohit Sharma fell short of his maiden overseas Test century. The veteran Indian opener got out for 83 in the ongoing second Test match between India and England at the iconic Lord’s Cricket Stadium. The Hitman certainly looked at his best during the knock as there were no half measures. While the challenging deliveries were tackled with precision, the poor ones were dispatched for boundaries.
Notably, several questions were raised over Rohit’s potential as a Test opener ahead of this game. The 34-year-old was accused of throwing away good starts after doing all the hard work. The Mumbai-born cricketer looked solid in the previous game as well but got out on 36 in the first innings. However, Rohit put up an even better show in this game and even looked all set to script his name in the Lord’s honours board. However, an inswinging delivery from James Anderson castled his defenses in the 44th over.
Rohit Sharma’s stellar knock gives India the command
Earlier in the game, England won the toss and Joe Root didn’t have any hesitation in batting first with the conditions being overcast. The new Duke’s ball also did a lot of talking earlier in the innings with James Anderson and Mark Wood handling the bowling duties. However, Rohit and his opening partner KL Rahul seemed like players on some mission.
The duo, who added 97 runs in the first innings of the Trent Bridge Test, continued their stellar run. Interestingly Rahul took the backseat and allowed Rohit to do the bulk of the scoring. Their approach worked very well as England bowlers had a tough time on the field. In the process, the two dashers also became the third Indian pair to add runs for the first wicket at Lord’s.
Fans and experts were left in awe seeing their resilience as social media got flooded with praises. Rohit undoubtedly hogged the maximum limelight as he put up a batting master class at the Mecca of Cricket. Notably, a section of fans believed that Mayank Agarwal should have replaced Rohit for the Lord’s Test. Hence, the Hitman’s stellar show would have silenced his critics as well. Nevertheless, Rohit couldn’t reach the three-figure mark as his fans were saddened.
