Virat Kohli hasn’t been in the greatest of nicks in the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2020. Though his team, Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) won their opening game against the Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH), he got out cheaply. However, he led from the front in his side’s 10-run victory over the Orange Army. In the second match against Kings XI Punjab (KXIP), he looked lacklustre as well.
The Punjab-based franchise won by a mammoth 97 runs and Kohli flattered to deceive in all departments. In the field, he dropped opposition captain KL Rahul as many as twice. The drop-catches cost RCB big time as Rahul racked up the highest individual score by an Indian batter in the history of the T20 league. He notched 132 off a mere 69 balls with the help of 14 fours and seven colossal sixes.
A rough day for Virat Kohli
After Kohli dropped him for the second time, Rahul hammered 42 off nine balls, including a 26-run over off veteran fast bowler Dale Steyn. The drop-catches dashed Kohli’s confidence and it was evident when he came to bat. He strolled out at number four after Mohammed Shami trapped Josh Philippe in the front. A lot was expected of him as the Challengers found themselves in troubles.
But to his sheer dismay, he could manage one run off five balls. West Indies fast bowler Sheldon Cottrell got rid of the big fish in the third over itself. In the meantime, fans want Sunil Gavaskar to be removed from the commentary box. The 71-year-old Gavaskar, allegedly, made some derogatory comments on Kohli and Anushka Sharma, the wife of Team India’s and RCB’s captain.
“Inhone lockdown me to bas Anushka ki gendon ki practice ki hai,” Gavaskar had said. Over the years, on quite a few instances, the Bollywood actress has been blamed whenever the now 31-year-old Virat hasn’t been able to show his class and has underperformed..
Subsequently, Virat has also supported his better-half to whatever extent he can. As far as Gavaskar’s comments are concerned, they didn’t go down well with the netizens by any stretch of the imagination. He was a recipient of severe criticism.
Here’s how the netizens reacted: –
This is so disgusting. The way they don't forget to bring Anushka whenever he doesn't perform is so filthy. In whatever context he said, this statement cannot be justified. It isn't funny at all. https://t.co/0uJXjaSijl

Heard this live and the guy laughed. He has always been in the news for making some really unacceptable remarks "jokingly" while in the commentary box but this isn't okay. Who gave him the right to drag somebody's family into it irrespective of the context he meant it in? https://t.co/4MeFZNOdx4

When Hardik Pandya played first IPL match after the ban in 2019 and got out on a duck, Gavaskar in the comm box said "Aaj Hardik Pandya kuch nahi karke gaye" , referring to his controversial statement in Koffee with Karan.

If he was referring to Anushka bowling to Virat in lockdown or the other and the more controversial way, it is wrong to drag someone's wife in this totally unrelated matter. Moreover, after she's been targeted for many years. #SunilGavaskar #KXIPvsRCB
