Twitterati slams BCCI for appalling pay gap between Men and Women cricketers
The whole world is celebrating the International Women's day on Thursday and even Twitterati is on top supporting the Indian Women's team.
The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) announced the annual contracts for the Indian cricketers recently announced. There were significant pay hikes for both Men’s and Women’s team. But what’s troubling the Indian fans is the huge gap between the payments of both sets of players. While the top Indian cricketer among the top brackets will earn a whopping amount of Rs. 7 Crores, the Women will earn a maximum of Rs. 50 Lakhs. However, Twitterati has taken note of the same and has slammed BCCI for giving the worst gift to them on Women’s day.
Also, the new pay grade A+ was introduced for the Men’s team followed by A, B and C categories. The female cricketers had to do with the old three-tier system. Even C category players of male players are earning double than the top Women cricketers like Mithali Raj, Harmanpreet Kaur and Smriti Mandhana. The efforts put in by these cricketers is almost the same as they want to win the game for their country always.
Twitter lashes out
The whole world is celebrating the International Women’s day on Thursday and even Twitterati is on top supporting the Indian Women’s team. They believed that they deserve the similar amount like the Men’s team and these pay differences are surely not going down well with the fans. Moreover, their payments are already increased significantly compared to their all previous contracts.
Interestingly, the Girls in Blue played equally well in their recently concluded tour of South Africa where they won both ODI and T20I series comfortably. However, Twitterati was angry with the Indian board over the payments and few of them also lashed them over not telecasting Women’s matches. Some Tweeples also questioned BCCI about the gender equality this time around over the huge gap between the payments in the annual contracts.
Here’s how Twitterati reacted:
