Twitterati troll Faf du Plessis for his involvement in two run outs
South African innings folded up for 191 in 44.3 overs.
South Africa are playing defending champions India in a virtual knockout game the word virtual is important here since it is just a league game with the status that will take one team through to the semi-finals and one bag packing. Virat Kohli won the toss and asked the Proteas to bat first. Hashim Amla and Quinton de Kock were slow to start with but very cautious to not lose a wicket.
After 10 overs they had 40 runs on the board for no loss another 5 overs and their innings started to gain momentum, it looked like the pair of Amal and de Kock who have always loved to bat against the subcontinent bowlers would relish this chance and belt them big given the wicket was good to bat on. But the 18th over of the inning from Ravichandran Ashwin changed the course of the game.
After Amla edged it to Dhoni, QDK got to his half century his 6th fifty plus score against India. Ravindra Jadeja was brought into the attack and he bowled de Kock. Amla scored 35 while the wicketkeeper-batsman returned with 53 runs to his name. Thereafter it was chaos in the middle. South African batsmen walked in one after the other and there were as many as three run outs in the innings.
The first one to get out in that fashion was AB de Villiers as Faf du Plessis decided to take on the arm of Indian allrounder Hardik Pandya who coupled with MS Dhoni’s brilliant glove work caught the Superman who was running at the danger end short of his ground. This was a huge wicket for India and came as a gift rather. He was out for 16 from 12 balls.
Ashwin was the bowler again as Faf was involved in his second run out and once again it was at the cost of his partner. David Miller and du Plessis ended up at the same end while the latter had to put in a dive to save himself and that ended Miller’s 3-ball stay in the middle. South Africa were 4 down for 142.
There was another run out in the inning – the last dismissal as the Virat Kohli and MS Dhoni pair proved too good for Imran Tahir who runs faster in his celebration than between the wickets. The South African innings was folded up for 191 and the Indian team is on the top at the half way stage.
