Twitterati unimpressed with Shreyas Iyer who dropped another important catch

He had a difficult outing with the bat as well, scoring 30 off 37 balls and looked fairly uncomfortable at the crease.

“Catches win you matches” is a phrase we’ve been hearing for so long. We’ve seen so many matches turn on its head thanks to some silly drops previously, Shreyas Iyer dropping Miller in the previous game is an example. David Miller then stitched a fantastic partnership with Heinrich Klassen to wrap up another win in the Pink ODI.

Unfortunately for the talented youngster, he dropped yet another catch in the ongoing series. South African skipper Aiden Markram drove the ball straight to Extra cover. He failed to time it perfectly, which led to the ball traveling in the air and it went straight into the hands of Shreyas Iyer. It popped out of his hands and went to the ground, much to the disappointment of the Indian skipper.

Bumrah released the pressure off Iyer

It really was disappointing to see such a promising youngster drop such a dolly. Shreyas Iyer is off to a decent start to his ODI career and already has registered a few big scores. He was roped into the playing XI as a replacement for the injured Kedar Jadhav and his contribution in the field has been below the expected standards. He had a difficult outing with the bat as well, scoring 30 off 37 balls and looked fairly uncomfortable at the crease.

Jasprit Bumrah came to Iyer’s rescue and saved him from another embarrassment. Last time around, his drop catch paved way for a match-winning inning, but Aiden Markram failed to capitalize on the good start and the good fortune running in his way. He tried an audacious chip over long-on, only to get caught by Virat Kohli and the Indian skipper didn’t forget to give a proper “Delhi boy” send-off to his opposite number.

India served the previous ODI on a platter and surrendered to the Proteas in the worst possible way. To avoid any such humiliation, they need to stick to the chances they’re getting. These ain’t the tough ones where the fielders have to stretch their arms to the fullest and dive if necessary. 9 out of 10 times fielders manage to grab these catches, but unfortunately for Iyer, he’s been at the receiving end of some massive trolling.

Here’s how Twitter reacted to Iyer dropping yet another sitter.
