Two Indian teams might play at the same time in Australia tour
The report also adds that both the teams are likely to have different support staff.
After the conclusion of the series against the Windies, India are scheduled to tour Australia where they will take part in three T20Is, four Tests and three ODIs. In India’s previous overseas series against England, they slumped, especially in Tests where they lost 1-4. Many of the experts mentioned that not playing enough practice matches turned out to be detrimental.
Therefore, Virat Kohli and Co have agreed to take part in a couple of warm-up fixtures in Down Under ahead of the red-ball fixtures, which gets underway on December 6 at the iconic Adelaide Oval. In the meantime, it has been learned that two Indian teams might play at the same time at two different stadiums during the two-month tour as per reports in Mumbai Mirror.
Overlap of warm-up and T20Is
In order to play in the practice matches, some of the cricketers may have to miss the T20I series, which starts on November 21 at The Gabba in Brisbane. The next two T20Is will be played on November 23 and 25 at Melbourne Cricket Ground and Sydney Cricket Ground. There will be a gap of 10 days prior to the Test series and one practice match is bound to overlap with the T20I series.
The report also adds that both the teams are likely to have different support staff. Rahul Dravid, who has been with the India ‘A’ and U19 teams, may oversee the preparations of the practice matches as Ravi Shastri will be with the national team. Kohli may play the T20I series while Bhuvneshwar Kumar, who hasn’t played much red-ball cricket in the recent past, may play the warm-up matches.
A similar incident took place in 2017 when the Australian Test team toured India. At the same time, another Australian team played a T20 series against Sri Lanka. The T20I series ended on February 22 while the Test series started the next day.
