Two individuals caught for alleged involvement in Australian team bus attack
Assam CM Sarbanda Sonowal had asked the DGP of the state to look into the matter and ensure those guilty were caught at the earliest.
The international debut of Barsapara Stadium in Guwahati will not be remembered for the exciting game of cricket or Australia’s comeback in the series but for the disgraceful incident that followed the game. Soon after the conclusion of the match Aussie opener Aaron Finch posted an image of the shattered glass of the team bus on social media. Their bus was attacked by stones while on the way back to the hotel.
The incident was widely condemned by the cricketing fraternity, the authorities involving the Sports Minister of India, the CM of Assam as well as the fans. There were strong demands to catch those involved and the police swung into action immediately and on Wednesday morning arrested two youngsters for allegedly being the ones who pelt stones at the bus.
Though it was a shocking incident luckily no member of the Australian team or the support staff was injured since the seat next to the window was not occupied. It also attracted a lot of attention on the security measures in place to ensure safety of the players in Guwahati and the Assam Cricket Association, as well as the police department, faced a lot of criticism.
Don’t know how it happened
“We made every attempt to ensure a foolproof security but don’t know how this happened. It was near the team hotel and not at the crowded street near the stadium,” Buragohain was quoted as saying by PTI.
“The police have already arrested two persons and are investigating into the matter. I can assure that such incident won’t occur in future again. There will be a thick security cover when the Australian team leaves for Hyderabad,” he added.
Earlier in the day, CM Sarbanda Sonowal had asked the DGP of the state to look into the matter and ensure those guilty were caught at the earliest.
Pretty scary
Finch had termed it scary and tweeted- “Pretty scary having a rock thrown through the team bus window on the way back to the hotel!!,” with a picture of the shattered window.
