Two Sri Lanka local clubs were involved in a historic match and accomplished a unique feat during the ongoing Major Clubs T20 tournament. Both teams have set a record for the lowest score in a tied T20 game that lasted more than ten overs.
The unique feat was achieved during a group stage match between Kalutara Town Club (KTC) and Galle Cricket Club (GCC) in a rain-affected six-overs per side match. To note, both teams finished on 30 for 9 in their allotted six overs. Out of the 12 overs bowled in the match, just two overs went wicketless and the match average of 3.33 is also the minimum of any T20 match that has lasted beyond 10 overs.
A total of 15 wickets were scalped by left-arm spinners in the match
On a pitch that was offering assistance to the spinners and slow bowlers, a total of 15 wickets were grabbed by the left-arm spinners as they completely dominated the game. While four run-outs and two stumpings completed the fall of wickets from both the teams.
Kalutara Town Club spinner Inshaka Siriwardena recorded his best figures in competitive cricket after grabbing a total of five wickets and giving away just five runs in his two-over quota. These were also the best figures of the match. On the other hand, Galle batter Kawsitha Kodithuwakku (12 runs) was the only batter from both sides to manage to get double digits to his name with the bat.
With the match ending in a draw, both teams shared match points equally, as the Super Over will only be played from the knockout stages. Talking about both team standings in the points table, GCC is placed third in the points table and has one game left to play. On the other hand, KTC remains one point off the bottom of the group. The match between KTC and GCC was one of 32 encounters that had been rescheduled due to heavy rain in the country last month.
