U19 Asia Cup 2021: Day 6 Round Up

Day six of the U19 Asia Cup 2021 was topsy-turvy, to say the least. While one game went down to the wire and caused the fans to bite their nails, the other one had to be called off due to a covid scare.

While match 11 took place between Sri Lanka Under-19 and Bangladesh Under-19, the tenth match of the tournament took place between Kuwait Under-19 and Nepal Under-19. The game between the Lankans and the Bangla Tigers had to abruptly stop after it was confirmed that two officials tested positive for the COVID-19. On the other hand, the second game of the day was an absolute thriller, as Kuwait kept their calm and crossed the line.

Sri Lanka U19 vs Bangladesh U19 game called off

It was an absolute tragedy that the game couldn’t continue. The Asian Cricket Council had released a statement to inform the same. “Asian Cricket Council and Emirates Cricket Board can confirm that the final Group B match of ACC Under 19 Asia Cup scheduled for play today has been called off. It is confirmed that two Officials have tested positive for COVID-19. The Officials are currently safe and being treated in accordance with tournament protocols,” read the statement.

Earlier, after being asked to bat first, Bangladesh were 130-4 in 32.2 overs. With 45 from 64 deliveries, Prantik Nawrose Nabil was their top scorer. Treveen Matthew and Dunith Wellalge took two wickets each.

Kuwait Under-19 win by one wicket

It is safe to say that the Kuwait skipper Meet Bhavsar single-handedly won the game for his side. His unbeaten 175 ensured that Kuwait end their campaign on a winning note. After winning the toss and electing to bowl first, they restricted Nepal to 239.

With three wickets in his five overs, Mirza Ahmed was the star with the bowl. However, while chasing 240, the Bhavsar-led side kept losing wickets at regular intervals. Barring the skipper, none of their batters were able to cross 25.

Yet, the left-handed batter played an unreal knock. While Kuwait needed 11 off the last two overs with one wicket in hand, Bhavsar scored three boundaries in 48th over and finished the game in style. Thus, this was one of the most thrilling contests of the tournament.
