After some jaw-dropping encounters in the tournament, India and Australia locked horns in the Final of the ICC Under-19 World Cup 2018 at Mount Maunganui in Tauranga. India have remained unbeaten throughout the tournament and have decimated their oppositions en route their journey to the Final. On the contrary, Australia commenced their tournament with a hefty defeat against India.
Nevertheless, the Aussie stormed back and raised their game as the tournament entered its business end. Subsequently, they stormed their way into the Final. India were clear favourites having won all their games in the tournament and also because they have earlier beaten Australia in their opening game. However, India carried on their rich vein of form and turned over Australia in the contest.
After Australia won the toss, Jack Edwards and Max Byrant got their team off to a brisk start. However, Ishan Porel picked a couple of wickets to clinch the ascendancy for India. Nonetheless, some gritty display of batting by Jonathan Merlo bailed them out. However, they lost a flurry of wickets in the end and collapsed for 216 runs.
From India’s perspective, Ishan Porel, Shiva Singh, Kamlesh Nagarkoti and Anukul Roy picked up a couple of wickets each to choke the Aussie batsmen. India got themselves off to a flier courtesy Prithvi Shaw and Manjot Kalra’s blistering batting and India didn’t look back ever since. Manjot Kalra blazed away to a stupendous ton following which India thumped the Aussies for the second time in the tournament.
Will Sutherland and Param Uppal dismissed Prithvi Shaw and Shubman Gill to keep Australia’s hopes alive. However, Kalra and Harvik Desai put their head down and helped India to their fourth World Cup title, the most by any team. Quite expectantly, Twitter showered praises and lauded the youngsters on the stupendous achievement.
