Following up the impressive performance, many players were sold at a much higher price than their base price. Out of the 15-member U19 squad that went to New Zealand, as many as five players were sold in the IPL auction.
Joy Bhattacharjya leaves fans confused with sarcastic remark
Kolkata Knight Riders have bought the highest number of Under-19 players this year from the IPL auction. Out of the five players picked, KKR bought three players in the auction showing how keenly they followed the tournament. They have got the likes of Kamlesh Nagarkoti, Shubman Gill and Shivam Mavi from the auction.
Also, the trio played a key part in the U19 World Cup triumph and were three of the best performers in the team. Joy Bhattacharjya, former team director of the KKR, has compared U-19 cricketers with start-up companies on his Twitter account today.
Moreover, Joy was a key member of the KKR management team from 2008 to 2014. The famed quiz master was also the Project Director of the FIFA U-17 World Cup 2017 as well, where he worked in tandem with Tournament Director Javier Ceppi. The duo remained key figures in making the U-17 football World Cup in India an astounding success.
Earlier today, Joy wrote of Twitter that “If you look at IPL auctions, U19 players are like startups. They require investment and usually don’t pay off immediately. The success rate is similar as well.” Joy left the fans confused with this witty and sarcastic remark. Joy is known to many as one of those rare intelligent-yet-funny men and this tweet showcases the humor in his tone yet again.
