U19 Vinoo Mankad Trophy: Arjun Tendulkar stars for Mumbai, bags a fifer
The left-arm pacer finished with figures of 5-30.
Arjun Tendulkar, son of former Indian cricketer Sachin Tendulkar, bagged a fifer in Mumbai’s opening game of the U19 Vinoo Mankad Trophy . The left-arm pacer ran through Gujarat’s batting line-up, who were bundled out for a mere 149 runs. In reply, Mumbai cantered to victory, scaling the target with 9 wickets in hand.
Gujarat got off to a terrible start, losing their opener Vardhman Dattesh Shah off the second delivery of the match. It was Arjun Tendulkar who provided the breakthrough for Mumbai. He soon followed it up with another two Gujarat wickets to reduce them to 16 for 3.
Mumbai canter to victory
As the scorecard read 77/7, Gujarat’s duo of Umang and Jaymeet Patel built a 58-run partnership for the eighth wicket in an effort to post a respectable total. Arjun then came back to pick up the wicket of Jaymeet and broke the crucial partnership. He then bagged his fifth wicket by removing Dhruvang Patel for 6, finishing with match-winning figures of 5 for 30.
During the chase, Mumbai’s openers Suved Parkar (67*) and Divyaansh (45) put on a 108-run stand for the first wicket. Pragnesh Kanpillewar then joined Parkar to see Mumbai through comfortably as they won the match by 9 wickets.
Since Arjun Tendulkar will turn 20 next year, this is his final year at the U19 level. He will therefore have to miss out on the 2020 U19 Cricket World Cup, which is scheduled to be played in South Africa. Arjun played two youth Tests against Sri Lanka in the month of July where he finished with three wickets from two matches. The left-arm pacer is yet to play senior level cricket for his state.
