Umar Akmal and Junaid Khan involved in an ugly public spat, disciplinary action may be taken
"It's a shocking news for me as a captain," Akmal had said.
The Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) is all set to initiate a probe for the recent ugly spat between Umar Akmal and Junaid Khan ahead of their match for a National One-day match at Rawalpindi for the Pakistan Cup. The incident occurred during Punjab Provinces’s fixture against the Sindh’s at Rawalpindi.
After Umar Akmal was asked about his team combination. He seemed perplexed about the absence of the left-armer as he was not aware of it. He admitted it was a shock for him as captain to discover that.
“I just found out when I walked into the ground that he [Junaid Khan] is absent. I am very surprised. The manager and coach told me he is not going to be playing today. It’s a shocking news for me as a captain,” said the right-hander according to Zee News.
Later, Akmal was informed Nasir Nazir would fill in for Junaid due to his absence. After witnessing the recent developments, Junaid was quick to release a video message on a social media site from his hotel room.
He expressed that he had been suffering from food poisoning and that he had informed the team management about it. Even the team doctor had advised the left-arm fast bowler to take adequate rest.
“I am very disappointed to hear about what Umar Akmal has said just now giving the impression I ran away from this match. The fact is I am dealing with a case of food poisoning and I had informed the team management about this and they were aware of this fact and the team doctor advised me rest,” replied the southpaw.
This is not the first time Pakistani players have been involved in an ugly public spat. In 2007, Shahid Afridi, Shoaib Akhtar, and Mohammad Asif had been involved in a brawl which was captured in the film. Shoaib was seen hitting Asif with a stump during their net session in South Africa for the ICC World T20.
