The New Year could not have started in a better manner for Umesh Yadav. The Indian pacer and his wife were blessed with a baby girl on the first day of 2021. The Indian pacer was ruled out of the ongoing Test series against Australia due to a calf injury that he sustained at the Melbourne Cricket Ground.
The injury has come as a blessing in disguise for the Indian pacer, as Umesh will get to spend time with his family and his ‘Little Princess’ back home. In the two Tests that Yadav had played thus far in the series, the right arm pacer had taken 4 wickets. While Yadav scalped 3 wickets in the Adelaide Test, he could pick up just a single wicket in the whole of the MCG Test, where he limped off after bowling just 3.3 overs in the second innings.
Yadav’s joy knew no bounds and he immediately took to social media to tell the world about the birth of his daughter. This is what Umesh tweeted, “Welcome to the world Little Princess! So thrilled that you are here!”

T. Natarajan to replace Umesh Yadav
In the place of Umesh, the Indian side has added limited-overs bowling hero T. Natarajan for the New Year Test that will take place at the Sydney Cricket Ground(SCG). Natarajan is yet to make his debut in the longest format of the game for his country. Also, Shardul Thakur was added to the Indian squad ahead of the MCG Test in place of the injured Mohammed Shami.
As far as Umesh Yadav is concerned, the Vidharba speedster has picked up 148 wickets in his Test career thus far. Earlier, even Indian skipper Virat Kohli had left for India after the first Test, as he and his actor-wife Anushka Sharma are expecting their first child in January this year.
Meanwhile, the Test series between India and Australia is intriguingly poised at 1-1. While Australia pounded the Indians by 8 wickets in the first Test, the visitors returned the favor to the kangaroos in the second, by steamrolling the hosts by a similar margin in the Boxing Day Test.
The third Test of the series will be played from January 7th. Also, it has been announced that the returning Rohit Sharma has been appointed as the vice-captain of the Test side. India would be looking to deliver the knockout punch and retain the Border-Gavaskar Trophy by getting the better of the Aussies at Sydney.
Yadav will look to spend some quality time with his family for the next few weeks. After the Australian series, India has another grueling Test series lined up, when England visits Indian shores in February-March.
