Umesh Yadav reckons lack of reverse swing in ODIs a worrying factor
Moreover, he mentioned the same to be a challenge for the bowlers.
The introduction of two new balls in a One Day International was introduced way back in 2011. However, the likes of Sachin Tendulkar and Virat Kohli reckon that it may very well be a matter of concern. Tendulkar termed it as a ‘perfect recipe for disaster’ which can be seen from the high scores racked up by teams in the last few weeks, especially in the series between England and Australia.
Umesh Yadav, the Indian fast-bowler believes that the usage of two new balls from both ends will fizzle out reverse-swing, which is deemed to be a prime weapon for the fast-bowlers when the leather gets scuffed up. Yadav also mentioned that in that scenario, it be an ardent task for them to put a lid on run-scoring when they will occasionally falter in their line and lengths.
“It is tough to handle that pressure”- Umesh
“Because of the two new balls, it is tough for the fast bowlers to contain runs. If you have only one ball then it gets older and older and you get reverse swing. With two balls, reverse swing is rarely seen in the ODI game right now, so it is difficult for fast bowlers especially if they don’t get the lengths and the yorkers right,” Yadav was quoted as saying by Sportstar.
The Nagpur-born cricketer also put forth the run-churning spree England’s batsmen dished out during their match against the Aussies at the Trent Bridge in Nottingham where they put on the record of the highest ODI score of 481. Moreover, he mentioned the same to be a challenge for the bowlers.
“If the ball isn’t doing anything in the death overs, it is tough to handle that pressure especially if the wicket is very flat. Nowadays we have seen that the wickets are very flat and in England, they are now regularly playing on that kind of surfaces. They are scoring 480, so definitely it is very challenging for the fast bowlers,” the 30-year-old added.
