Vidarbha, the winners of Ranji Trophy this season, are all set to lock horns with Rest of India (ROI) in the Irani Cup starting on March 14. The game will also mark the end of the long domestic season in India as Faiz Fazal led side would be looking to win the game and display their prowess. They have been bolstered by the inclusion of the fast bowler and the national player Umesh Yadav now who will be the spearhead of the pace attack during the game in Nagpur.
Umesh endured a decent Deodhar Trophy with the ball and scalped five wickets while featuring for India B thereby helping them clinch the title against the resurgent Karnataka side. Vidarbha is yet to announce their squad for the fixture but they wouldn’t want to change the winning combination as everything will be at stake for them.
Wasim Jaffer is also available
Vidarbha skipper Faiz Fazal was delighted to have Umesh Yadav in the side and felt his experience will help the other players in the team as well. “It would be great to have Umesh in the side and he has been quite good in the Deodhar Trophy, that form will help us as well,” he was quoted as saying by Sportstar Live on Sunday.
Even the veteran Wasim Jaffer has cleared that he will be available for the Irani Cup fixture which should bolster the batting attack for the Ranji title holders.
On the other hand, Rest of India squad will reach Nagpur on Monday evening and train on Tuesday ahead of the game the next day. They also possess some of the exciting talents in the country with Karun Nair leading the team. The likes of Prithvi Shaw, Abhimanyu Easwaran, Mayank Agarwal and R Ashwin among many others will be looking to hit their straps during the game and impress the selectors.
