Team India registered a comprehensive win against Ireland on Sunday at the Malahide Cricket Club in Dublin after the game was reduced to 12 overs a side as a result of the rains. It was Hardik Pandya’s maiden outing as Indian skipper, and it became even more memorable as the Men in Blue sealed a magnificent victory.

But what came as a surprise, or a shock, to many was the first delivery of the match that was bowled by Bhuvneshwar Kumar. He was successful in dismissing the opposition skipper Andrew Balbirnie in the very first over, but what caught attention was the speedometer’s reading of the very first ball which registered the speed at 201 kmph.

Later, in the same over, the speedometer clocked 208 kmph and Twitterati couldn’t keep calm. While the official record for the fastest delivery in international cricket, 161.3 kmph, is held by Pakistan’s Shoaib Akhtar, the first ball of the game yesterday left the audience baffled. Bhuvneshwar Kumar bowled an amazing spell during his time with the ball, but besides his efforts, the technical glitch also became a talking point.

India’s maiden win under Hardik Pandya’s captaincy

Speaking of how the match panned out, skipper Hardik Pandya won the toss and elected to bowl first. The rain played a spoilsport, but the two teams did not fail to put up a competition. Indian bowlers took advantage of the conditions and cleaned up the Irish top-order within just four overs, giving India a major breakthrough.

But the bowlers could not go past Harry Tector as he wreaked havoc on the field and looked to end the innings on a high. His unbeaten half-century surely helped Ireland in a positive manner, but the hosts could not accelerate their innings as expected and India restricted them to 108 runs in 12 overs. India’s top order saw a change as Deepak Hooda walked out alongside Ishan Kishan.

While the duo gave a terrific start, it was Hooda whose efforts were appreciated the most as he remained unbeaten throughout the 9.2 overs that India played during the chase. His partnership with Pandya was the highlight of the show as the two added 64 runs to take their side over the line. Hooda also provided the finishing touches as India clinched a victory in the much-awaited clash to take a lead in the series by 1-0.

Meanwhile, here’s how Twitter reacted to the speedometer glitch
