While one Indian team is on break between series in England, another Indian team has already touched down in Sri Lanka to play two limited-overs series, a three-match ODI series, and a three-match T20I series. A young team under the leadership of Shikhar Dhawan has been sent to the island nation.
While traveling to Sri Lanka, Shikhar uploaded a picture on his Instagram account which was taken in the chartered flight, on which the Indian team traveled to Sri Lanka. Kuldeep Yadav, Yuzvendra Chahal, and Prithvi Shaw were also seen in the picture uploaded by Dhawan, while Suryakumar Yadav, unintentionally photobombed in the picture, appearing from the back.
Dhawan also posted a caption with the post, which read, “next stop Sri Lanka.” After Dhawan uploaded this picture, Mumbai Indians batsman Suryakumar Yadav, posted a funny comment on it. He said that he has his eyes on the newly-appointed skipper and also asked the Delhi batter to find him in the picture.

‘Un aankhon ne draa diya’ – Shikhar Dhawan jokes with Suryakumar Yadav
To this, Dhawan replied in his own style, humorously, something which has become synonymous to his personality ever since he has been playing for India. Dhawan responded to the comment saying, “hahaha dikh gya bro agli baari tere begair nahi click karengey. Un aankhon ne draa diya”, which translates to ‘hahaha I can see bro, we will not click pictures without you from next time, Your eyes have scared me.”
Dhawan has been named the captain of the Indian ODI squad in the absence of senior players and their captain, Virat Kohli, and vice-captain, Rohit Sharma. Apart from Dhawan, Bhuvneshwar Kumar and Hardik Pandya have also been named to the squad. Rahul Dravid has been tasked to be the head coach of this young Indian team.
The series will be entirely played in Colombo, at the R Premadasa Stadium. The tour will commence with the first ODI on July 13. The second and third ODIs will be played on July 16 and 18. After this, the three T20I matches will be played on July 21, 23, and 25. This will be the first time Dhawan will be leading the Indian team.
