The 2018 season was no different as a handful of players were roped in by franchisees who were part of Under-19 World Cup held in New Zealand earlier this year.

With the 2016 U19 stars still occupying a substantial chunk of available uncapped slots, only five players got a chance to feature in the playing XI. All those players were impressive in the limited chances and are considered to be the future flag bearers for their teams.

Shivam Mavi caught everyone eyes when he and bowling partner Kamlesh Nagarkoti consistently touched 140kmph in the U19 WC. The Kolkata Knight Riders bought both the pacers but lost the services of Nagarkoti who suffered an injury before even the start of the season.

Mavi was a part of the XI in nine matches during the season and picked up five wickets. He conceded runs with an economy of 9.64, what worked against him was his lack of experience and the ability of the batters to make use of the pace on the ball and at times even edges travelled over the ropes. Mavi might have been rusty this time around but showed enough signs to be considered an assent for KKR in coming years.

Abhishek Sharma made his debut only after Delhi Daredevils were officially out of the IPL 2018 playoff contention. The young all-rounder produced a sensational effort on his debut taking on the RCB bowlers at the Feroz Shah Kotla. He scored 46 off just 19 balls with three fours and four sixes.

Had Abhishek completed his fifty in that game, he would have become the first player to score an IPL fifty before turning 17. Abhishek scored 63 runs in three innings he batted but didn’t get a chance to bowl. The highlight of the little cricket he played here was the way he churned out the shots, there was a sense of ease he wasn&#8217;t fazed by the bowler or the situation of the game.

With the batting strength in the KKR line-up, Gill couldn’t get a chance of batting in top three which is his natural position. However, Gill aggregated 203 runs in the 11 innings he batted averaging 33.83 and maintained a strike rate of 146.04. His best knock was against CSK when he was promoted to No.4 and he responded with an unbeaten 57. With this knock, Gill became the first teenager to score an IPL fifty batting at No.4 and lower.
