Understanding your mistakes and learning from them is critical to winning games: Babar Azam

Pakistan dominated the proceedings against Bangladesh to whitewash the hosts in the three-match T20I series. The team’s skipper Babar Azam has thus opened up on the side’s performances in the series. He pointed that the team has improved on certain aspects of the game and that understanding one’s mistakes and learning from them is pivotal for winning games.

Despite the last over drama, Pakistan secured a five-wicket victory in the third and final T20I in Dhaka to register a clean sweep against Bangladesh. Having won the series dominantly, Babar Azam feels that the team’s fielding performances have improved. He also praised the lower-middle order batters for fetching in crucial runs.

“Understanding your mistakes and learning from them is critical to winning games. The squad’s fielding performance has greatly improved in recent months, and the lower-middle order has also won us matches. However, cricket is a game with good and bad days, and the team should work hard constantly,” Babar Azam said in a post-match briefing.

We will try and keep the same momentum in the Test series: Babar Azam

The Pakistan skipper wasn’t at his absolute best in the T20I series against the Tigers. He registered the figures of 7, 1, and 19 in the three matches he played. Babar Azam thus reflected on his performance and said that he couldn’t bat the way he would have liked to.

Having said that he also lavished praises on Khushdil Shah, Fakhar Zaman, and Mohammad Nawaz for their exceptional outing in the series. He termed their performances as impressive and refreshing. Pakistan is scheduled to play two Test matches against Bangladesh next starting from November 26. Babar Azam thus stated that the team will aim to carry their winning momentum in the red ball games as well.

“The series victory is purely a team effort. As a captain, I try to define everyone’s role in the team. There are good and bad days in cricket and we will keep working hard. I couldn’t bat as I would have liked to in this series but the performances of Khushdil Shah, Fakhar Zaman, and Mohammad Nawaz were quite impressive and refreshing. We will try and keep the same momentum in the Test series,” Babar added.
