Team India captain Virat Kohli on Monday became the first Indian cricketer to sign a Rs. 100 crore deal with a single brand after his announcement of an eight-year contract with Puma. His association with Puma also made him join ranks with the fastest man in the planet Usain Bolt and former football star Thiery Henry. Bolt took to his twitter handle and congratulated Kohli on his association with Puma. “Great choice @imVkohli, Time to go to the next level,” tweeted the Jamaican legend.

The Indian captain gave a fitting reply in a few hours time where he expressed his desire to run as fast as Bolt does. “I wish I could get as fast as you someday @usainbolt. Thanks legend,” Kohli tweeted. This clearly shows the amount of mutual respect these legends in different sporting fields have for each other.

A year earlier, the flamboyant Delhi lad was associated with Puma’s rival brand Adidas and the deal came to an end last year and this will be the first time Kohli will be endorsing a sports brand since then. His contract for 8 years with Puma also means that he will be associated with the brand for the majority of the rest of his career. Following his association with Puma, Kohli expressed his happiness after becoming the first ever cricketer to sign an 110 crore deal with a single sports brand.

Kohli has undoubtedly been in the form of his life and his consistent showing in all three formats of the game sets him apart from his peers. He recently became the first ever cricketer in Test history to smash 4 double centuries in 4 consecutive Test series after his double ton against Bangladesh in the one-off Test at Hyderabad.

In his short captaincy career, Kohli has already broken MS Dhoni’s record of most consecutive series wins across all formats after winning the T20I series against India and is on the verge of creating history if India manages to win the Test series against Australia starting from February 23 in Pune.
