Usain Bolt is a bigger hero than me in the Caribbean: Chris Gayle
It's exemplary display of sportsmanship from Gayle to recognize his compatriot's accomplishments and uphold him as the greater legend in his nation.
It’s no secret that the fastest man on Earth, Usain Bolt ran his final solo race last night at the IAAF World Athletics Championships, in London. However much, to everyone’s surprise, fans witnessed an anti-climax where Bolt finished third, losing out the gold to American sprinter Justin Gatlin. The whole world is in awe of Usain Bolt for what he gave to the fans in the last one decade. Undoubtedly, the Jamaican sprinter is the greatest to have graced the sport.
Just like Bolt, another Caribbean sporting legend who comes next on your mind is the swashbuckling left-handed batsman Chris Gayle. Though Jamaica is known for Bolt to all the sports aficionados, Gayle is also a loved son in his country and is treated like a hero.
Known for decimating any bowling attack, Christopher Henry Gayle is arguably the greatest batsman to have played the T20 format. He has performed in the shortest format of the game in almost all the leagues around the world and is one of the deadliest batsmen in the sport. Both Bolt and Gayle have contributed a lot for their nation and are cult figures who are loved by a vast majority of the people in the Caribbean islands.
In an exclusive chat with Sportskeeda, lauding the sprinter, Gayle said, “Usain Bolt without a doubt, is the bigger national hero in Jamaica.”
Both Gayle and Bolt are cult figures in Jamaica
Usain Bolt is an eight-time Olympic Gold medal winner (three 100m, three 200m, and two 4 x 100m relay), 11-time World Champion (three 100m, four 200m, four 4 x100m relay) and is the world record holder in all three categories.
Despite the fact that both the athletes have contributed a great deal to the respective sports they play and have won accolades for their nation, Bolt’s accomplishments are considerably more noteworthy considering the magnitude of competitions.
