The Rising Pune Supergiant had a very disappointing night in the IPL finals. They ended up on the losing side in the last ball thriller. Needless to say, the players were utterly disappointed after the defeat. One such player from the RPS camp who expressed his disappointment was Australian batsman Usman Khawaja. Khawaja took to micro-blogging site Twitter to note that it was a disappointing end to the final.

Well, his tweet was not a usual imperative statement. Khawaja had a cheeky little dig in his tweet that could well be seen as a self-trolled one. Throughout the season of the IPL, the Australian opening batsman was seen warming the benches. He was not given any opportunity to play in the tournament. The reason remains largely unknown or perhaps it was the team management that did not see Khawaja fit in the bill for the side.

When English all-rounder Ben Stokes had made an exit after the league stages, it was speculated that Usman Khawaja could well be the one replacing him. However, RPS had a very settled opening pair in Ajinkya Rahane and Rahul Tripathi. In at number 3, there was a certain Steve Smith and MS Dhoni followed him in the list. Needless to say, there was no place for Khawaja to bat in the top order.

Going back in the memory lane

Interestingly, it was not that Khawaja had been warming the bench since the start of the IPL. Even prior to the commencement of the popular T20 league, Khawaja was a part of the Australian team that toured India for the 4-match Test series. Hence, Usman had a 4-month long stay in India. Sadly for him, he was not given a look in for the Border-Gavaskar Test series either.

He had to serve on the sidelines as the Australian team found no room to accommodate him in the list. Trying to take a dig at the same, Usman Khawaja wrote that there was high-quality water in India – indicating that he was serving drinks for 4 months this season in India.

“Had a great time in India for the last 4 months! Sad way 2 finish the IPL but had a great time @punesupergiants. #highqualityh2o #india #ipl,” Usman Khawaja tweeted.

And the replies

The Twitterati found humor in the same and came back with some very funny replies. Here is how they responded to the Tweet:
