Usman Qadir gets the better of Imran Tahir with a wrong'un
Both of them were born in Lahore, Punjab.
South Africa are scheduled to play three ODIs and a solitary T20I against Australia, which gets underway on Sunday, November 4 with a T20I at Perth Stadium. Prior to the international fixtures, the Proteas locked horns with Prime Minister XI at Manuka Oval in Canberra. In the meantime, a couple of Pakistani-born cricketers- Imran Tahir and Usman Qadir also played the match.
Moreover, both of them were born in Lahore, Punjab. The two had a chance of facing each other in the warm-up match. However, it was Usman who got the better of Tahir in their face-off. The latter isn’t known for his prowess with the willow in hand and Usman dismissed him for a four-ball duck. The leg-break bowler churned out a wrong’un, which deceived the batsman.
Tahir pinned by Usman
Tahir went on to the backfoot and tried to guide the ball on to the leg side. Qadir and his entire team appealed in unison and the on-field umpire didn’t have much hesitation in raising his finger. He was the last South African wicket to fall as they were bowled out for a paltry 173 in 42 overs. Qadir was also impressive with the ball, finishing with an impressive spell of 10-1-28-3.
Apart from Tahir, the 25-year-old also got the wickets of Dwaine Pretorius and Lungi Ngidi in the 22nd and 42nd over respectively. He was also their most economical bowler. As far as Tahir and Qadir’s similarities are concerned, both are connected to legendary Pakistani leg-spinner Abdul Qadir. The 63-year-old retired tweaker is the father of Usman.
On the other hand, Abdul was a mentor to Imran Tahir at a time when the latter used to play domestic cricket in Pakistan. While Imran is in the fag end of his career, having expertly plied his trade for the Proteas in limited-overs cricket, Usman may go on to represent Australia. Usman also had the privilege of featuring for Lahore Qalandars in the PSL.
