Veda Krishnamurthy and Dipti Sharma in touching distance of their Big Bash League deals
Only Mandhana and Harmanpreet have represented in the Australian league before.
Indian women’s team had a very successful campaign in ICC Women’s World Cup. They were brilliant throughout the tournament and came very close to winning the World Cup before a heartbreaking collapse. It was a heartbreak in the end but the success of the team has helped members of Indian team like Veda Krishnamurthy and Dipti Sharma get recognition.
Veda Krishnamurthy to get a Big Bash deal
According to the reports, Krishnamurthy is close to signing a contract with a Women’s Big Bash League franchise. The batswoman would become only the third Indian woman to get a contract in the league.
“I am in talks with a few franchises. Until then, I don’t like to say much,” Krishnamurthy told PTI when asked about the possibility of playing the Big Bash.
Veda is not the only Indian in talks with a big bash side. Dipti Sharma is reportedly also in contact with Big Bash franchises for a contract. The young all-rounder played a key role in India’s road to the Final in the 2017 World Cup. “Both Krishnamurthy and Dipti Sharma should play the Big Bash this season. They are close to securing contracts,” stated a BCCI official.
Focus on regaining fitness
Since the World Cup, Indian team haven’t played any game and regaining match fitness is on the top of agenda for Veda. The right-handed batsman said that she worked on her fitness during the off-season and is now looking forward to joining the India camp in Bengaluru from November 8.
Veda seemed happy that there is more recognition since their run in the World Cup. Only Smriti Mandhana and Harmanpreet Kaur have represented in the Australian league before.
“We hardly got time in the first two months after coming back from England. Life has changed and people recognise us now. I was focussing on my fitness all this while. Just can’t wait for the season to begin,” concluded Veda.
