Veda Krishnamurthy thanks BCCI for support in unprecedented times after Lisa Sthalekar slammed the board

Indian woman cricketer Veda Krishnamurthy had a tough last month as she lost her mother and sister within two weeks. Both of Veda’s family members passed away after contracting the COVID-19 virus. On expected lines, the batter was not included in the Indian Test and ODI team for the upcoming tour of England. However, former Australia women cricket team Lisa Sthalekar was disgruntled with BCCI’s treatment of Krishnamurthy.

Taking to Twitter, Sthalekar slammed BCCI for not getting in touch with Veda after the twin tragedies in her family. Opining that a board should care about its players, Lisa also mentioned how well the Australia Cricket Association (ACA) treated her during her playing days. Contrary to Lisa’s allegations, Krishnamurthy thanked the Indian board and its secretary Jay Shah for supporting her in the unprecedented times.

Many thanks sir @BCCIWomen,” tweeted the 28-year-old. Veda’s thanking post has indeed defied Sthalekar’s allegations and also earned praises for BCCI.

Earlier, Sthalekar, who played eight Tests, 125 ODIs and 54 T20Is for Australia, claimed that BCCI didn’t even check how Veda is coping after the tragic loss. “Whilst not selecting Veda for the upcoming series maybe justified from their point of view, what angers me the most is that as a contracted player she has not received a communication from the BCCI, just to even check how she is coping. A true association must deeply care about its players and not focus solely on just the game at any cost. So disappointed,” the 41-year-old wrote on Twitter.

“As a past player the ACA has reached out daily to see how we are and provided all kinds of service. If there was a need for player association in India it is surely now. The stress, anxiety, fear and grief that many players have experienced through this pandemic will take its toll on them,” she added.

Meanwhile, the India Women’s team is set to depart for the UK tour in the first week of June for a one-off Test, ODI and T20I series against England. While Mithali Raj will lead the Women in Blue in Test and ODIs, Harmanpreet Kaur will handle the reins in T20Is.
