India A women will travel to Australia in order to play limited-overs starting from December 12. On Thursday, All-India Women’s Selection Committee announced the squad that will go onto play against Aussie women. However, they came up with a surprising decision ahead of an important series that will get kicked off from next month.

India women defeated West Indies with sheer dominance by 5-0 in the recently concluded T20I series. In their emphatic win over Carribean side, Shafali Verma emerged as the ‘Player of the Series’ as she amassed 158 runs at an average of 39.50 in five innings. For her brilliance in the series, she has been awarded the spot in the team.

Shafali made her debut for Team India back in the T20I series against South Africa. She became the youngest woman to play for India in a T20I match.  In November 2019 she smacked a brilliant fifty against West Indies and became the youngest woman for India to score a half-century in international cricket.

The charge of India A women’s squad that will head to Australia is given to Veda Krishnamurthy. And, Anuja Patil, the off-spinner has been named as her deputy on the important tour. The selectors have picked two wicketkeepers in the squad i-e- Sushma Verma and Nuzhat Parween. Veda didn’t have the best of her series on her tour to Carrebiean soil. In five games she scored only 77 runs and now it is a big opportunity in order to prove her worth.

Anuja, who has been picked as the vice-captain of the team, had a great tour in West Indies with the ball. She scalped five wickets in three games and would like to replicate her form on the upcoming away tour. The fast bowling attack of the team will be taken care by Renuka Singh, Manali Dakshini and TP Kanwar.
