Vernon Philander ruled out of Test Series: Ever since the touring South African team landed on Indian soil, their players have been troubled by injury woes. First, JP Duminy got injured, then Morne Morkel and later in the Test series, Dale Steyn suffered a serious blow which didn’t allow him to bowl in Indian second innings. Now to add insult to injury, their premier paceman Vernon Philander has also injured himself when he got involved in an accident with Dean Elgar and now has been ruled out of the Test Series.

Talking about the injury, Ab de Villiers told in a press conference,”It was a very freakish accident. Philander accidentally stepped on Dean Elgar’s foot while practising, and subsequently injured his leg.”

The fast bowler was seen hobbling on the ground and had to be carried off the field by the medical staff. Later when the reports came, they revealed that Philander had suffered multiple ligament injuries to his left leg, and will need six weeks of rest.

Morne Morkel is just coming out of an injury and with the situation still not very clear about the availability of Dale Steyn, this is a big blow for the South African team who will try to bounce back in the Second Test which starts on November 14th after losing the first one in just 3 days. Vernon Philander bowled 27 overs and picked up three wickets in that match and the Proteas would definitely miss him.
