Veteran umpire Aleem Dar faced the brunt of an excruciating heatwave during the first ODI, played between Pakistan and West Indies at the Multan Cricket Stadium on June 8 (Wednesday). As a result, he walked off the field midway through the contest and was subsequently replaced by the fourth umpire Faisal Afridi.

The incident occurred during the middle phase of the second innings, with the official complaining about having a headache. Dar reportedly fell ill and vomited after going off the field. It must be noted, that the temperature at Multan was recorded near about 45 degrees celsius on Wednesday.

Dar was taken for a check-up and was declared stable by the doctors

The weather conditions have been a talking point in the ODI series between Pakistan and West Indies, with the temperature being on the higher side. Earlier, West Indies head coach Phil Simmons had also opened up about the conditions, stating that the heat is going to be ‘extreme’, but it will be the same for both teams.

Similarly, Pakistan skipper Babar Azam had also accepted the fact that it is a challenging scenario to play in such heat, but he also emphasized the fact that the Men in Green start their camp early before the match, to acclimatize to the conditions and get ready for the match.

Talking about the first ODI match, the Men in Green batted extremely well, to chase down a target of 306 runs set by the visitors. Skipper Babar (103 off 107 balls), Imam-ul-Haq (65 off 71 balls) and Khushdil Shah (41 off 23 balls) were the star performers for the home side, as Pakistan completed the chase with four balls to spare.

Earlier in the match, an excellent century from Shai Hope (127 off 134 balls) and Shamarh Brooks’ half-century (70 off 83 balls) ensured that the Men in Maroon crossed the 300-run mark. For Pakistan, express pacer Haris Rauf scalped a total of four wickets.
