Sourav Ganguly’s fallout with Greg Chappell is an open secret. The equations between them got ugly and in the end, Sourav had to lose his captaincy as well as his spot in the team. Earlier, Chappell sent a message to the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI), regarding his displeasure of working with Ganguly. Chappell said that Ganguly was ‘physically and mentally’ unfit to lead India.

Ganguly had to work out of his skin to stake his claim back into the national team. Though he came back after a year, he never got back captaincy. Even after 12 to 13 years following the incident, Ganguly, who’s the BCCI president, hasn’t forgotten it. In a video, doing the rounds on the social media platforms, Dada can be seen, throwing some hard words at Rahul Dravid and Chappell.

It was Dravid, who became the skipper after Ganguly’s removal. Sourav said that Dravid didn’t have the courage to revolt and stand tall against the wrongdoing.

Chappell was committing mistake after mistake: Sourav Ganguly

“Because of Greg Chappell the dressing room was divided. Rahul Dravid is such type of a person who wants that everything goes smoothly. He knew that things were going wrong, but he had no courage to revolt and tell him (Chappell) that he was doing wrong,” Ganguly said.

“Obviously, whatever happened with me a year ago in Zimbabwe and the kind of furore that followed any captain would think that I peacefully play cricket which is right also. But if your coach has been committing mistakes after mistake,” he stated.

Ganguly also revealed an incident surrounding Virender Sehwag, who had to bear the brunt of Chappell during the 2007 World Cup. Back then the India head coach said that Virender only made the cut due to the support from captain.

“He had told Virender Sehwag during the World Cup (2007) tour that he should not have been there in the team, but since ‘your captain supported you, you were included in the team’,” he added.

In the mega event, India started with a shock defeat against Bangladesh. Though they blew away Bermuda, the defeat against Sri Lanka knocked them out of the tournament.
