Jharkhand skipper MS Dhoni was involved in what was reported to be an animated argument with the curator of the Eden Gardens wicket Sujan Mukerjee. The third round of matches of the ongoing Vijay Hazare tournament ensured that Jharkhad and Saurashtra faced each other in the round. However, much to the dismay of most, the encounter was complete in just the 52 odd overs.

The wicket had offered a lot of swing and the amount of swing that it had offered made it a diabolical surface, something that was quite clearly not the best for batting. Batting first, Jharkhand were bundled out for a paltry 125 after batting just the 27 overs. However, they were able to rally back to ensure that they defeated Saurashtra aftr bowling the latter out for 83 in 25 overs.

In spite of the win, Dhoni, who recently stepped down from the Indian captaincy position went ahead and met the curator Sujan Mukerjee. However, as was expected from Dhoni, he did not complain about the wicket but instead stated that it did indeed seam a lot and that even Mukherjee was indeed unhappy with the wicket as well.

“Yes he said the wicket seamed a lot but he never came to complain. Even I’m not happy with the wicket. I also felt the ball moved and swung a bit more,” Mukherjee told PTI. “He came to meet me as I was his East Zone coach during his U-19 days. During his previous match I was not here so he came to meet me.”

However, despite this, Mukherjee promised that there will be a better wicket for the next encounter. “It seemed there was some moisture retention that led to ball swinging. It was one of those days. It will be fine by the next match.”
