Vijay Hazare Trophy 2018-19: Fan runs into Kotla, touches Gautam Gambhir’s feet
It was when the southpaw was batting that a fan breached the fences and ran straight into the middle and touched the former’s feet.
He might have played last for India almost two years ago but veteran opening batsman Gautam Gambhir still has a decent fan following and it was proved at the Feroz Shah Kotla on September 20. Gambhir, 36, scored a remarkable half-century for Delhi against Saurashtra in Vijay Hazare Trophy and a fan of his could not hold himself back and ran into the ground to greet him.
Gambhir played the game as the captain of Delhi and after Saurashtra batted first to score 237, came out to open the innings with Unmukt Chand. However, Chand got dismissed for nought and Gambhir then steered the innings. He got out at 62 off 48 balls during which he slammed 10 boundaries. After his dismissal, Himmat Singh (74 not out), Manan Sharma (25) and Lalit Yadav (36 not out) played crucial knocks to take Delhi home. The home side won the match by 5 wickets with four overs remaining.
It was when the southpaw was batting that a fan breached the fences and ran straight into the middle and touched the former’s feet. The man was then taken off the ground by the security personnel. The video was filmed by one of the spectators present on the ground. It was posted from the Twitter handle of Team Gautam Gambhir. Gambhir’s good form continued on Friday as well when he scored 41 against Hyderabad in the same ground and Delhi won this time by 6 wickets.

Gambhir shuts ex-Pakistan player for mocking Kohli
Gambhir also made the headlines when he shut down former Pakistani pacer Tanvir Ahmed who accused regular Indian captain Virat Kohli of running away from the ongoing Asia Cup. Gambhir took on Ahmed in his reply to ABP News, saying while Kohli has 35-36 centuries to his name (ODIs), Tanvir did not even have 35 international games to his credit.
The left-hand cricketer Gambhir is known for his forthright views on various issues though he was seen having moderate conversation with his ‘old foe’ on the ground Shahid Afridi.
